Madeleine Albright: Bush Planning Bin Laden October Surprise

It was bad enough on Monday when Washington state Congressman "Baghdad" Jim McDermott suggested that President Bush could have captured Saddam Hussein long ago, but moved only when the news would have had maximum political effect.

But now, former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright is telling reporters that the Bush administration may already have captured Osama bin Laden and will release the news just before next year's presidential election.

On Fox News Channel's "Special Report with Brit Hume," Roll Call reporter Morton Kondracke recounted Albright's comments to him during an encounter before Tuesday night's broadcast, while she was waiting in the green room to appear on another show.

Kondracke said the former Clinton official approached him and asked, "Do you suppose that the Bush administration has Osama bin Laden hidden away somewhere and will bring him out before the election?"

Kondracke said that Albright didn't seem to be joking, explaining, "She was not smiling."

He shot back, "You can't seriously believe that."

Albright replied that she thought a bin Laden October Surprise orchestrated by Bush was "a possibility."

Reacting to Albright's bizarre outburst, former Reagan administration drug czar Bill Bennett told Fox News Channel's "Hannity & Colmes": "It's nuts. It's staggering. It's paranoid.

"Maybe this is the style of thinking she'd grown accustomed to in the Clinton administration," he added. "Shame on her for saying that, as a former secretary of state of the United States."

Talk about spin. She posed a hypotehtical..."Do you suppose..." and now they're trying to credit her with saying that Bush is doing this. Journalism never ceases to amaze me.

Personally, I certainly don't think they've caught him, but could they have been trying harder to get him sonner...absolutely. Is this for effect, trying to get him at a more opportune time? Politics are part of every calculation made by this Admin, so at least in part, yes. I'm sure Fox could spin my opinion into "D2bets says Bush knows where Saddam is but is waiting for a better time to nab him".

Further proof of the incompetence at every level we were living under during 8 years of the "liberal Saviour" William Clinton. Especially when it came to foreign policy.

Interesting thing would be if it turned up he was dead say a year ago and they just found the evidence. That they could hide. If they caught him I don't think there is any way they could keep that under wraps for 10 months, not a chance. Not only would you worry about the US guys letting it out, the Al Qaeda guys probably would talk in some way that made it clear he was in "enemy" hands.

Way he hasn't shown up in a long time and how his lieutenants are doing all the talking makes it quite clear that he isn't well, if alive at all. My guess is he is dead, but they certainly couldn't let that out to the world. I think the only way they would be willing to tell everyone Brother Osama was dead is if they had some major victory or something and said "we dedicate this to you our beloved Osama, we will not let your fight end". That really is the only way it could come out, before that and they risk losing their followers. If they still are able to organize and make some big successful attack then they probably would feel strong enough to tell everyone that even without their leader, they still survive. So here is to hoping we don't hear them tell the world that he is dead.

Interesting conspiracy theory.Liberals have a million of them...but I have never seen the one where a murderous madman dictator would in anyway support the radical ambitions of another murderous madman religious fanatic, hell bent on the death and destruction of Americans and American intrest...But then again the Alice in Wonderland liberals where up is down and down is up,could never make that connection, its just to near fetched.
